Welcome

The Research and Analysis Department provides critical data and information to judicial leadership, government entities, court personnel, and the public. Its mission is to enhance judicial effectiveness through data, promote best practices, and empower stakeholders with research. The department is organized into two units: Data Governance, which ensures the quality and proper use of court data, and Research, which conducts applied studies to support policy, operations, and strategic planning.

Responsibilities include working with courts and judicial leaders to produce key reports like the Statewide Caseflow Assessment and Annual Statistical Abstract, processing data requests, developing dashboards, collaborating with state universities on major research studies, and supporting the Maryland Electronic Courts (MDEC) system through communications, tools, and workgroup involvement.
