The Treatment Court Division of the Worcester County Circuit Court was established in 2005 with its Drug Treatment Court program. This program is designed to help those with substance use disorders and accompanying eligible criminal offenses. The Drug Court recognizes that breaking the cycle of addiction requires constant vigilance, motivation, reinforcement, and treatment. The multi-phase program operates with a team of agencies working together for service integration and collective treatment planning. The post-plea program uses its multidisciplinary team to offer intensive supervision, treatment and support to effectuate needed change.
Treatment Court expansion occurred in May 2024 with the opening of the Wellness Treatment Court, a mental health specialty court docket for those individuals whose severe mental illness has contributed to their involvement with the criminal justice system. This program also uses a multidisciplinary team to help increase accountability, independence, symptoms stability, and enhance the overall quality of life of its participants. The health and wellness obtained while in Wellness Court is designed to decrease further interactions of behavioral health consumers with the criminal justice system.
