Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)

The District Court of Maryland’s Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Office provides ADR for civil cases before a scheduled trial date in all areas of the state through the Remote ADR Program, and on the scheduled trial date, in person in select court locations. .

Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is voluntary, confidential and free when provided through a District Court Pre-trial or Day of Trial ADR Program.

In ADR, a neutral person meets with the people involved in the situation. They are brought together to listen to each other and to find common goals. Each person has a chance to speak, to be heard, and to hear each other. The goal is for the parties to create their own solution to resolve the dispute.

The ADR neutral will not give advice or tell you what to do. They will not take sides or make judgments about who is right and who is wrong. They do not recommend the terms of an agreement. That is up to you and the other person. The ADR neutral also will not push you into settling your case.
