Plate 233
Havell XLIX
Cerulean Warbler
(Dendroica cerulea)
This painting—a collaboration in which Audubon drew the bird, and Joseph Mason the plant—is inscribed “Louisiana August 12th 1821.” The body of the bird, a female, is in pastel. The upper portion of the French-mulberry plant (Callicarpa americana), outlined here in pencil, was completed by Havell in his engraving.
