Patrons are expected to:
- Treat Library staff and other patrons with civility and respect.
- Keep cell phones and similar electronic devices set to vibrate or mute.
- Use one study carrel, worktable, or computer terminal at a time, and refrain from using belongings to save space.
- Keep Library walkways and aisles clear and unobstructed.
- Avoid leaving personal property unattended. The Library is not responsible for personal property that is lost, stolen, or damaged. Staff may remove unguarded personal property and forward to security.
- Avoid holding confidential conversations in the Library, including the conference room, because the courthouse is open to the public.
- Refrain from interrupting staff when they are assisting other patrons.
- Respect the privacy of Library staff and patrons.
- Refrain from requesting or attempting to obtain personal information about Library staff or patrons.
- Wear appropriate clothing, including shirts and shoes.
- Keep beverages in closed containers.
- Supervise children at all times while in the Library.
- Exit the Library immediately upon closing.
The following are prohibited:
- Using language that is abusive, threatening, or profane, or language that is sexually suggestive or aggressive.
- Conducting phone conversations or virtual meetings in the Library.
- Sleeping in the Library.
- Eating in the Library.
- Entering unauthorized or off-limits areas of the Library, including staff workspaces.
- Opening emergency exits, except in emergency situations, or remaining in the Library during emergency drills or evacuations.
- Using the Library in lieu of an office for the practice of law or any other business or professional activity.
- Offering or soliciting legal advice or business from other patrons. This includes but is not limited to the distribution of literature, goods, or services.
- Photography, filming, and audio-recording without prior approval from Library administration.
Compliance with Policies
Library staff is authorized to assess compliance with Library policies and to respond to any conduct that interferes with the use of the Library by staff or patrons.
Failure to comply with Library rules and policies, the directives of staff or security, or to cooperate in the enforcement of these rules may result in the suspension or loss of Library privileges. Suspension or loss may include, but not be limited to:
- Temporary or permanent removal from Library premises by security
- Suspension of reference assistance via phone or email
- Suspension of document delivery
The Library Director or designee may determine the length and type of the suspension of Library privileges.
