The Tobacco Business License Viewer provides a quick and easy way to look up license numbers for businesses selling tobacco products in Maryland. The cover page allows users to compare the number of licenses across counties. The “per 10,000 capita” metric is based on 2024 population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau.
The second page - “Click to Look Up License Numbers” – enables users to search for licenses by jurisdiction, address, ZIP code, owner name, or trade name.
Data Notes:
- Data is sourced from the eLicense system and refreshed on a semi-annual basis.
- Street names may not always match vendor records.
- If a "Trade Name" is blank, refer to "Owner Name".
- Data includes information on Cigarettes, Electronic Smoking Devices, and Other Tobacco Products retail licenses. For definitions, see Maryland Judiciary Business Licenses Online Glossary.
Using the Dashboard:
- Use the available filters (slicers) to search for specific information. Many slicers support text search. For example, you can type a specific address in the “address” slicer.
- To view the number of licenses by city, owner name, or trade name, click on the matrix table on the right side of the cover page. Click the drill-down (downward arrow) or expand (fork) icons at the top of the table to navigate to the next level of detail within the selected jurisdiction.
