Media Advisory:
Maryland Court of Appeals Hears Oral Arguments for State of Maryland v.
Brian Rice, State of Maryland v. Edward Nero, State of Maryland v. Garrett Miller, and Alicia White and Caesar Goodson v. State of Maryland

 

On Thursday, March 3, 2016, beginning at 10 a.m., the Maryland Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments in five cases related to the arrest and death of Freddie Gray.

The Court of Appeals granted petitions for writ of certiorari in these cases on February 18, 2016, staying the proceedings in the cases pending in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City.

--No. 96, State of Maryland v. Brian Rice
--No. 97, State of Maryland v. Edward Nero
--No. 98, State of Maryland v. Garrett Miller
--No. 99, Alicia White and Caesar Goodson v. State of Maryland (The cases of Caesar Goodson v. State of Maryland and Alicia White v. State of Maryland were previously consolidated in the Court of Special Appeals.)

Editor’s Note:
A limited amount of courtroom seating will be available for the public and media on a first-come, first-served basis.  Once seating capacity is filled, no one will be permitted to enter the courtroom.  Overflow seating will not be provided.

WBAL-TV is the designated pool camera for oral arguments for these cases.  Media representatives may make arrangements with WBAL-TV to receive footage of oral arguments.  No live broadcasting will be allowed from the courtroom.

Judiciary public Wi-Fi is available at the Courts of Appeal building.  The access code is @UnionMills56.  Laptops, tablets, and smart phones may be used to access public Wi-Fi in the first floor rotunda/lobby or at the Maryland State Law Library.

Photography and videography are prohibited inside of the Courts of Appeal building.  The use of electronic devices, including cell phones, cameras, and audio or video recording or transmitting equipment is prohibited inside the courtroom.

Media interviews must be conducted outside of the building.  Media representatives must neither block pedestrian access nor restrict any public areas.  Media interviews may not be conducted anywhere inside the Courts of Appeal building.

Limited parking for media trucks will be available across the street from the Courts of Appeal building in the spaces marked for the Maryland State Law Library.  Parking restrictions will be strictly enforced.  Additional public and media parking is available at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.  For more information, see the Maryland Judiciary website’s directions and parking information web page.
