Judiciary Invites Walkers to
“Take Steps to Bring Peace to Our Communities”

(BALTIMORE – Sept. 12, 2011) In celebration of International Conflict Resolution Month, the Maryland Judiciary will hold a free, family-friendly, 3K walk around the Baltimore Inner Harbor on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 9 a.m.-noon. The event is hosted by the District Court of Maryland Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Office and the Mediation and Conflict Resolution Office (MACRO) to raise awareness about the variety of services people can use to peacefully resolve conflicts within their families, neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, houses of worship, and other organizations.

Open to families and walkers of all ages, the 3-kilometer (1.8-mile) walk will start from the Inner Harbor’s Rash Field, next to the Maryland Science Center, 201 Key Highway, Baltimore. Check-in begins at 9 a.m., and the event will kick off with music, games, and a chance to create customized signs to carry on the walk. Information tables will highlight organizations in Maryland that offer conflict resolution services, such as mediation, community conferencing, conflict coaching, and more. Parking is available at Rash Field.

After Chief Judge Robert M. Bell of the Maryland Court of Appeals kicks off the event in a brief opening ceremony, walkers will stroll along the promenade to the Pier 5 Lighthouse and back to Rash Field. Walkers can also take part in a scavenger hunt and look for clues along the course to win prizes at the end of the walk.

Walkers who register by September 16 will get a free t-shirt and tote bag, which will also be available on a first-come basis to participants who sign up on the day of the walk. To register online, go to For more information, call Felicia Watkins, 410-260-3540, or email
