Mediation and Conflict Resolution Office-Advancing the Use of ADR Statewide

MACRO’s Grant Programs

MACRO's mission is to collaborate with stakeholders statewide to develop and expand conflict resolution services and education in courts, communities, schools and universities, state and local government agencies, criminal and juvenile justice programs, family service programs, and businesses; and to promote excellence in mediation throughout Maryland. One way that MACRO accomplishes this mission is through its grant programs.

MACRO provides two types of grant funding: Conflict Resolution Grants and Community Mediation Performance-based Grants.

Conflict Resolution Grants are available to non-profit 501(c)3 organizations and government entities who seek to develop or expand conflict resolution projects or programs. Types of projects funded in this category include, but are not limited to: conflict management training, program evaluation, start-up funds, conferences, pilot projects, conflict resolution support staff, facilitations, and other dispute resolution services. MACRO is particularly interested in projects it believes have a high likelihood of success, which can be replicated by others, and projects that have a high positive impact. MACRO funds are not intended to supplant existing services, nor are they intended to cover all operational costs for any given program.

Under the Conflict Resolution Grant program, MACRO accepts applications of up to $5,000 using its Short Application Form, and applications for over $5,000 using is Standard Application Form. The deadline for submitting these applications is as follows:

Small-grant Applications: Can be submitted at any time.

Standard Applications: Must be received by Monday, July 28, 2008 by 5:00 p.m. for funding in FY2009

Organizations that are interested in applying for FY2009 funding should contact MACRO at 410-260-3540 before submitting their application.

Grant Information Sessions

MACRO will be hosting two open information sessions on its Conflict Resolution Grants Program.  These sessions are open to anyone interesting in learning more about applying for and managing a MACRO Conflict Resolution Grant.

The dates for these sessions are:

  • Tuesday, April 8th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at MACRO
  • Thursday, April 10th from 9:00 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Judiciary’s Education and Conference Center
Please contact Alecia Parker, MACRO’s Budget and Grants Director, at 410-260-3544, or at alecia.parker@mdcourts.gov, if you plan to attend one of these sessions.

Community Mediation Performance-based Grants are provided to non-profit 501(c)3 organizations or government entities who provide community mediation services that meet MACRO’s Ten-Point Model of Community Mediation. Funding in this category is based on how well centers are meeting the ten-point model, on the number of conflict resolution intakes and sessions that a center provides, and on the amount of matching funds raised.

Applications in this category are accepted on an invitation-only basis. To be considered for funding under this Grant Program, you must contact MACRO first. Community mediation center start-up grants are also available to support creating new programs in areas not currently served by existing community mediation programs.
