JUROR INFORMATION

There are two Jury Sessions in Queen Anne's County, April and October. The Spring Jury Session begins on the first Monday in April, and ends on the last Friday in September. The Fall Jury Session begins on the first Monday in October, and ends on the last Friday in March. Although you will be subject to call during the entire session, your service will probably not exceed (5) days during the entire session.

During the period of your service, you will be paid the sum of $15.00 per day for attendance.

For your convenience, a Call-In System is available. In each summons you receive, you will be advised to call (410) 758-1783 the evening prior to trial. The message will advise you whether the trial will proceed as scheduled or if it has been canceled. Please make certain that you listen to the entire message.

Although dress may be casual, please dress conservatively. Shorts and cutoff jeans, hats (except for religious purposes), tank and halter tops, undershirts, and sandals are considered inappropriate. Cell phones and pagers are prohibited.

Certifications of jury service needed for your employer are available upon request. These letters may be obtained at the Clerk's Office. An employer may not deprive an employee of his employment solely because of job-time lost as a result of Court attendance in response to a jury summons, under the provision of the Annotated Code of Maryland, Courts and Judicial Proceedings, Sec. 8-105.

ADVANCE NOTIFICATION OF VACATIONS, MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS, ETC. ARE TO BE MADE IN WRITING AND SENT TO:

Jury Commissioner
100 Court House Square
Centreville, Maryland 21617

Please state in your correspondence if you require confirmation of receipt and acceptance of dates requested.

THE NUMBER TO CALL TO SEE IF A TRIAL WILL PROCEED AS SCHEDULED IS: 410-758-1783

Jury Service is an important aspect of the rights, privileges and freedoms we all enjoy in the nation; and YOUR service is greatly appreciated by the Court.

For more information on Jury Service, please review the following material:

  • To All Prospective Jurors. It is very important that you read this material thoroughly before being summoned for service. Please note the list of important information found on the memorandum and keep it readily available. Additional questions and inquiries concerning your jury responsibilities may be directed to this office.
  • Preparation for Jury Duty (in PDF). This pamphlet was developed to introduce jury service to those summoned to jury duty for the first time and to refresh the memories of those who have had past experience as petit jurors.  It will help you become familiar with terms and procedures that are common in both civil and criminal cases.
  • Grand Jury Handbook(in PDF). This pamphlet introduces you to service as a grand juror.  It explains how a grand jury is chosen, the difference between a grand and petit jury, the duties of a grand jury, frequently used terms, and more.
  • Finally, please visit the Jury Service website where you'll find FAQs for employers and employees, do's and don'ts during trial and deliberations, and more.

YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED BY THE CLERK'S OFFICE AS TO WHEN TO REPORT FOR JURY SERVICE.

The above information, and other information contained on this website, applies to both Petit and Grand Jurors
